If you have prior kendo experience and wish to train with us, please contact us at any time via email, the Facebook page or come speak to us before or after any of our trainings.

Training Times:

  • Monday 6:00pm - 8:00pm

  • Wednesday 6:00pm - 8:00pm

  • Saturday 9:30 am - 11:00 am - TBC

If you are completely new to kendo...

Why not try it out? A few things you'll learn from joining our Beginner's Course are:

  • Shinai (bamboo sword) and bokuto (wooden sword) techniques and counterattacks
  • Kendo footwork
  • How to properly kiai (shout performed during an attacking move)
  • How to wear kendougi (kendo uniform) and bogu (armour)

Beginner's Course Info:

Our 2023 beginner’s course will commence on February 27th and is open to everyone, students and non-students alike. The first four trainings (Monday 27th, Wednesday 1st March, Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th of March) are FREE trial sessions - come along and see what kendo is all about before you sign up! 

Meet the Monash University Kendo Club members, some of whom are state and national representatives, and see what makes our club a fantastic community to be a part of.

The course runs for 10 weeks (with 2, potentially 3, training sessions a week) and will cover the basics of kendo for complete beginners. 
No prior experience in kendo or any other martial art is necessary.

What to Bring:

Yourself! No specialist kendo equipment needed in the trial week, we will provide all necessary equipment. Please also bring along a water bottle, and wear comfortable clothes you can exercise in. For the time being, you MUST also bring a face mask!

Training Times:

  • Monday 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Wednesday 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Please arrive by 5:30pm for a prompt 6pm start (for both the trial week trainings and regular trainings).

Location:

Games Hall, Monash Sport, 42 Scenic Boulevard (Building 1), Monash University Clayton Campus, VIC 3800.

Cost:

$140 (includes membership fees, a shinai [kendo sword] and a shinai bag).

How to Join:

Show up outside the Games Hall at least 10 minutes before 6 pm on Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd, Monday 27th of February and Wednesday 1st of March.
We will be taking signups for the Beginners Course from February 20th
