About Outdoors and the Monash Club
Monash University Outdoors Club is for those with a passion for the outdoors and a love of adventures whether they are staff, students, alumni or friends. Our activities stretch from simple camping, orienteering and bushwalking to the more illustrious such as cross-country skiing, rogaining, mountain-biking, rock climbing, caving, kayaking, rafting and canoe polo. We try and run at least one beginner trip for each activity per semester and many trips for the more experienced, especially in the areas of rock-climbing, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. We also host weekly indoor rock-climbing sessions to fine tune your skills. By joining us you will meet people with a similar love for the outdoors, sport and adventure. So if you're after new friends to go on adventures to places near and far, or simply want to see more of Australia's beautiful outdoors, then MUOC is the place to look!
In response to COVID-19, the MUOC committee has decided the following for the club:
- To suspend all club trips indefinitely
- To suspend any use of club gear indefinitely
We haven't made this decision lightly and we believe that this is the safest course of action for MUOC members and the community. Ultimately, we want to ensure the well being and safety of our members and believe the above decisions reflect this. The committee will continue to monitor the situation and will act accordingly with regards to resuming club activities. We'll be hard at work in the background improving the club in the interim and hope to return stronger than ever. We appreciate your understanding and support and look forward to more outdoors pursuits soon. Please stay safe and informed regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. If anyone has any queries regarding the above, please contact email@example.com.
Update as of 15/06/20 - In line with DHHS regulations and advice from the university, MUOC has been advised that trips and gear usage must not resume until at least the 22nd of June. MUOC is currently working with the university to develop procedures for the return to activities. Guidelines for trip leaders and participants are being developed for social distancing, hygiene and the like. Development of these procedures will extend beyond 22 June for many activities. MUOC will return to activities on a sport-by-sport basis, as these procedures are developed. When trips do resume, MUOC will be running fairly basic trips for the foreseeable future. We appreciate the patience of our community and look forward to seeing everyone again in the near future. Any queries can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
