Two current students and four alumni are ready and raring to go in Paris, France, for the prestigious 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Five athletes and one coach will be representing their respective sports and countries and we can't wait to watch them in action!

The Summer Olympics will feature 10,500 athletes from 204 countries, coming together in the spirit of sport and competition. Held every four years, the Games aim to develop individuals through sport and contribute to world peace.

The event will span 16 days of intense competition, running from July 26 to August 11.

Georgia Griffith, a Business/Design alumna and 1500m runner, expressed her gratitude and excitement for her selection to Paris 2024.

“Can’t wait to give it my all…” Griffith exclaimed on her Instagram account.

Linden Hall, another 1500m middle-distance runner and Master of Dietetics alumna, is proud to be selected for her third Olympics.

“Aussie middle-distance running is on fire right now, and it’s so special to be a part of it. I wouldn’t be able to keep up without the entire village behind me. I have so much love for them all,” Hall stated in a heartfelt Instagram post to her supporters.

Rhythmic gymnast Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva, who has previously competed in the Commonwealth Games and is a four-time Australian all-around champion (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023), will be competing in her first Olympic Games while juggling her studies as a Monash Law student.

'Sport taught me organisation, patience, and work ethic, which in turn allowed me to compartmentalise study, training, and recovery.” Kiroi-Bogatyreva explained.

Race walker and recent Biomedicine graduate Rebecca Henderson is set to compete in her second Olympic Games.

“I've been able to schedule my classes around my key training sessions each week. When I'm away for a camp or races, all of my unit coordinators have been really helpful in organising alternative arrangements for me to complete all of my work while I'm away. I'm always very busy during the semester with full-time uni and training, but I've been able to cope pretty well so far due to the accommodations Monash is able to make for elite athletes,” Henderson stated in an earlier interview in 2021.

Education graduate Dale Stevenson will be coaching 4 athletes at the Olympics and one at the Paralympics: Matt Denny - Men’s Discus; Jacko Gill - Men’s Shot Put; Lauren Bruce - Women’s Hammer Throw; Ash Moloney - Men’s Decathlon; Paralympics - Guy Henly - Men’s F37 Discus.

Dale proudly represented Monash at numerous Australian University Games in the 2000's, winning multiple medals in Track & Field. He was a Full Blue recipient in 2007 and team captain in 2008.

Monash extends congratulations to all participating students and alumni and wishes them all the best of luck!
