On Wednesday May 11, the University of Melbourne hosted Monash University in 7 high intensity matches as part of the 2022 Big Blue Varsity event calendar.

Every match went down to the wire, with Monash winning 6 of the 7 matches!

Monash University pulled out all the stops, not only did we take 70 student athletes, but we also took and 140 spirited student supporters. You could feel the Monash spirit the minute you arrived at the University of Melbourne Sports Centre, with tons of cheer encouraging the athletes. Not to mention the supporters painting the venue Monash blue in their snug scarves and beanies!

Under lights at the university oval the Ultimate Frisbee team turned on the gas. Beating Melbourne 10-6, with some fantastic displays of athleticism where players sprinted down field to score throughout the night.

Just beside them the Hockey teams battled it out for every possession. The women endured a close 0-1 defeat whilst the men went all the way, winning their game in a penalty shootout!

Indoors, fuelled by the loud cheers and Monash spirit coming from the supporters, both the Men's and Women's Volleyball teams dominated the courts without dropping a single set! But they weren't allowed to take all of the glory, with the Squash teams putting on a clinic! The men with a decisive 4-0 victory and the women with a comfortable 3-1 victory.
