Last Friday, the 61st Annual Blues Awards was held at Monash University. Over 100 people attended to celebrate the awards, which went to 82 athletes across 14 different sports.
The Blues Awards have been running since 1963, and are awarded to athletes in recognition of their exceptional achievements while representing Monash University. Many of our past recipients have competed in the Olympics, World Cups and set new records.
Katie Sawford-Barnett, a former Blues recipient in 2018, and the chairperson of the 2023 Blues Committee, praised our recipients' passion and distinction while representing Monash, and thanked them for their contributions to the Monash community. She added “Your accomplishments add vibrancy to our sporting culture, and we are proud of the energy and excellence you’ve brought to Monash this year.”
The 61st Blues Awards was attended by notable members of the Monash community, and past Blues recipients, including Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor David Copolov and Professor Ruth Jeanes from the Faculty of Education.
Award night MC, Lucy Dawson said “ Really savour the opportunity that you have when you are representing Monash, since the time you spend at university is over in a flash. The Blues is a testament to your dedication and commitment to your sport and your university, and something that will become a life long memory”.
A list of Blues recipients can be found below. Photos from the night can be found here.
