In memory of Alysha Waye, who tragically passed away from brain cancer in 2019, our Monash teams will be wearing purple ribbons to raise awareness for this critical cause.
Alysha, a former captain of the Monash Softball Team, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015, which forced her to step back from the sport she loved. Despite her diagnosis, Alysha remained resilient and dedicated her time to raising funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation throughout her treatment.
Martin Doulton, former Team Monash Director, reflected on the unwavering support Alysha received from her teammates after her diagnosis.
“The team decided to honour Alysha's contributions by wearing something purple on the day she couldn’t join them at Uni Nationals,” Doulton said.
“For the past four years, we’ve continued this tradition during the Unisport nationals events, symbolising our commitment to brain cancer awareness and Alysha’s enduring legacy.”
Although we lost Alysha 5 years ago now, her spirit and efforts to support others in the face of adversity will never be forgotten.
“It’s important to wear these purple ribbons to remind ourselves that our mission extends beyond sport,” Doulton emphasised.
Once again, athletes will don purple ribbons and apparel throughout their events to honour Alysha’s memory and continue her fight against brain cancer.
