We want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you who participated or donated to our #TeamMonash Virtual Mother’s Day Classic team this weekend!
As a Monash community, we had the largest tertiary/higher education team in Australia with 70 participants. Members participated from their homes all across the state, including Bendigo, thanks to our Rural Health staff.
Together, we managed to raise a fantastic $4015 for life-saving breast cancer research.
This year, the walk/run was more than just a sporting event, it was about sharing stories and feeling a part of something bigger, generating that sense of belonging and deeper community, more important now than ever before.
Blue skies, some exercise and spending time with those we love most – even if that meant over FaceTime - also made for a great distraction from isolation.
Medical student and elite soccer player Jessica Au said she has “never been a fan of long distance running, but it [was] worth it for a good cause!”
“Women in Australia have a 1 in 8 lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, and that’s why detection and treatment are so important,” she said.
Jess set out with a target of $500, and has now hit $586 and counting, making her our biggest fundraiser for 2020.
