Making the most of Melbourne’s stellar weather and the easing COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria this summer, the Monash Waterski and Wakeboard club are back and they’re well and truly making waves.

Heading up to the Murray River for NYE and Australia Day, the club had over 30 members come together and get plenty of wakeboard/ski practice in over the course of the weekend, and not to mention, some relaxation and recoup from the year that was 2020.

The club’s vice president, Natalie Hendricksen said she plans to ensure the club remains stronger than ever this year, and hopes to start hosting more frequent trips and a range of social events on weeknights so members can stay connected to the MUWW crew.

“COVID-19 definitely had an impact on our club in 2020. We were unable to run trips, recruit new members at o-week, or stay in touch with each other during the off season at our usual Bounce and Burgers nights, pub crawls, committee meetings or Wake Ball. However, that’s only made us more hungry to make 2021 an amazing year,” she said.

True to this promise, the club will be hosting two more trips early this year, COVID-19 pending of course (running Feb 19-21) and a new members camp (running March 19-21).

Take it from club member Ash Stafford, whatever you do, you don’t want to miss a Monash Waterski Wakeboard club trip.

“The 2021 Aus Day trip was one to remember for me! Highlights included floating down the Murray river with a waterproof speaker and floaties by our side, lunch visits to Deep Creek Marina pub, a soaped up 10 metre slip-and-slide and the Triple J hottest 100 countdown by the water. Having a membership for the 2021 season means I’ll definitely be back. I’m looking forward to the New Member’s Camp and the renowned Easter trip,” she said.

So, if you’re looking to try something new and join a tight knit club with plenty of opportunities to socialise and meet new people, keep an eye out for MUWW’s latest trips and social events via their Facebook and Instagram page or their products page where you can purchase tickets.

“Be sure to look out for us on campus during o-week too – we’ll have the boat with us,” Nat said!
