On Wednesday 30th of March, Monash University is pulling out all the stops to support the students competing in the first multi-sport event of the Big Blue Varsity Challenge for 2022.

The Big Blue is a chance for two of Australia’s biggest varsity universities, Monash University and the University of Melbourne, to go head to head in a variety of sports.

The festivities kick off at 5pm, with matches starting at 6pm. The Monash Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Mixed Touch Football and Women’s Hockey are all ready and raring to go!

Rivals on and off the sporting field, Big Blue events are a great opportunity for the two universities to put their rivalry to the test. A huge range of sports are contested throughout the year and are a great chance for students to represent their University in a local and competitive setting, at no cost.

Over 30 matches are held throughout the year, with a winner declared at the conclusion of Semester 2 when all head-to-head results are tallied up. From basketball to rowing, cricket to hockey, the Big Blue Varsity Challenge has often ended in a tight race.

Last year, even with the challenge of Covid, Monash took out the year long competition winning 11 out of the 21 events held. Sealing the competition, our women’s Badminton team won 3-0 making Monash the overall champions for 2021!

To celebrate the return of the Challenge on Monday March 28, from 5pm to 9pm there will be FREE food trucks, DJs and a heap of activities. The first 200 people to register will receive a free Monash merchandise pack and the Monash Cheer and Dance club will also be holding a ‘come and try’ workshop so you can get into the spirit of supporting Monash!

We can't wait to cheer on the Monash teams, to register for the Big Blue Varsity Challenge click here.
