Underwater hockey and snorkeling
The Underwater Club's main focus is underwater hockey: a 6-a-side team game that requires getting a puck into your opponent's goals, whilst underwater.
We are a development club focused on introducing the sport to and developing competence within the University environment.
Our development activities are centered around introduction sessions and snorkel coaching as a steppingstone to the sport and access to the wider underwater environment.
This is a seriously different sport and if you enjoy swimming or being in water, you will take to this like a duck to water!!
Underwater hockey is a competitive team sport, the objective is to put the puck into the opposition's goals.
The game is played in a 25-metre pool with a depth of 2 metres, 6 players a side, attired in snorkeling gear, armed with a playing stick and protective glove.
Snorkeling is taught as a steppingstone to participating in underwater hockey: you need to learn to walk before you can run.
We can teach you the basics in your first session and you can expect to have a good handle on the techniques after 2 more sessions.
We conduct regular introductory sessions for both snorkeling and the game.
