It's finally here: MUOC's first downhill MTB trip. The plan is to head up to Mt. Buller for some shuttles with Blue Dirt MTB ($70) on Sunday 8th of December. Buller features a number of gravity trails of varying difficulty. 'Copperhead' was built several years ago as one of Australia's first flow trails and can be ridden on shorter travel bikes. 'Abom' is an 'intermediate' trail which introduces a number of larger jump features. The most difficult trail on the mountain is 'International' and is used for State-level downhill races: only for the keenest riders out there! We'll progressively work our way from easy to difficult trails and the shuttles will allow plenty of laps of the mountain across the day. Dual suspension bikes and a full-face helmet are mandatory for this trip: there are a number of bike shops around Melbourne which will hire enduro and downhill bikes and there is also All Terrain Cycles at the top of Mt.Buller which have a hire fleet. Recommended suspension travel is 150-160mm+ altough riders new to gravity style riding may benefit from a full 200mm travel DH bike.

I'm open to either an early start Sunday or to drive up and camp in the valley Saturday night. Please let me know your preference when signing up. Fitness isn't a major concern for this trip but technical skills are: riders must be confident on local trails with black/advanced rating if wishing to come along. The trails in the high country are substantially more difficult than anything near Melbourne.

Trips is free to attend but shuttles cost $70 and must be booked with Blue Dirt MTB. Sign-ups close on Wednesday 4th December @ 5PM.
